Spring Trends at Better on Beauty

We had the lovely pleasure of partnering with Better on You for our first ever Beauty by the B event, Better on Beauty, that we hosted this past Tuesday.
The party was in full swing, with a lot of shopping, beauty and wine. We chatted spring trends and Kate did a makeup demonstration on our amazing model, Jennifer Allyson, of Art House - All of Us Together (www.allofustogether.ca).
Kate gave us tips on how to apply fake eyelashes, and applied a hot makeup trend on Jennifer, the bold orange lip!

A huge thank you to everyone who was able to make it out to the event, we sure hope to see you again at any future Beauty by the B events.
Another big thanks to the lovely ladies of Better on You (pictured above) and to Jennifer Allison for modelling. We are also extremely grateful to Stila Cosmetics for the amazing door prize!

Men’s Hair Trends

Hello gentlemen! Beauty isn’t just for us ladies, and hair certainly falls into this category. There are some seriously cool hair trends happening for men right now, so we break them down for you and recommend a few products that will help you achieve these stunning and sexy looks.
Sleek Side Part
Dramatic side part with clean sides. Using products with more shine, such as pomade, is ideal to get this look.

Product: American Crew Pomade
Medium hold with high shine.
Works well for curly hair and provides a modern, flexible alternative to styling gels. Use it to create classic, slicked back looks or for control in any hair type.
Application: Work a small amount evenly through damp or dry hair and style as desired.
Features: Water Based, Lanolin, Complex Strong Hold.
Benefits: Shampoos out easily without residue, provides tremendous shine and pliable hold, ultimate hold in a pliable product.
Length and Texture
This is a striking, rock and roll look that is super hot right now. Keeping the edges of the haircut clean, with length on top, create tons of texture and really play it up.

Product: Bed Head B for Men Pure Texture Molding Paste
This molding paste, with caranauba wax, wheat amino acids & powerful styling agents, helps prevent moisture loss while creating awesome texture that does not flake.

Spring Nail Colours
With spring lipstick looks, we decided that we certainly couldn’t keep nails off the list. Although spring seems to be really far away here in Calgary, we are keeping our adorably colourful and spring ready fingers crossed that it will soon be time to enjoy this lovely season and all of the great things that come along with it.
In the meantime, a few of our favourite spring shades!
-Zoya: Barbie
-China Glaze: Lemon Fizz
-Essie: Turquoise Caicos
-Sally Hansen: I Lilac You
-Orly: Decades of Dysfunction
Top Spring Lip Looks
Spring is here for some and just around the corner (hopefully) for us Calgarians, and we couldn’t be more excited for the beautiful and bright lip colours that are super hot and sexy for the season.
We’ve gone in and picked a few favourites, from bright tangerine to fuchsia pink, and of course, our ultimate favourite, the bold red.
In no particular order, here are Beauty by the B’s favourite spring lip looks!

- Jessica Alba rocks a bright orange and does it with serious style and grace. For this bold orange, we recommend Stila’s Valentina, so give it a whirl even if it’s still snowing outside.

- With her dark locks and bold lashes, Selena Gomez rocks a paler shade of coral and really pulls off the look. We love MAC’s Costa Chic to achieve this look.

- We love Gwen Stefani and her famous red lips…it’s like we are sisters from another mother. Try Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in 104 Passion - Chanel - to duplicate Stefani’s classic look.

- Kelly Osbourne isn’t afraid of colour, and that’s certainly the case here. She goes with a super bold and funky fuchsia pink that dazzles. We love the Smashbox Fuchsia Flash Matte.

- A soft pink shade is lovely for spring and summer, and especially a great choice if you want to have most of the focus on an intense eye, as in the case of Lucy Hale. Angel by MAC is the perfect soft pink, so give it a whirl.

DIY Face Masks

As with DIY Hair Treatments, there are many products you can find at your local grocery store that will do wonders for your skin. Here are a few treatments you can try at home…
1. If you have Oily Skin due to:
-Hereditary reasons
-Diet
-Hormones
Banana Mask…

Use 1 ripe banana with 1 tbsp of honey and a few drops of lemon. Blend all ingredients together and apply to face, leave on for 15 minutes. Remove the mask with a lukewarm cloth.
Oatmeal Mask

Use 1 cup of oatmeal with 1tsp of lemon juice and 1tsp of yogurt. Combine ingredients in a food processor or blender. Leave mask on for 15 min and rinse with warm water.
*citric acid in lemon helps to break down oil molecules
2. If you have Dry Skin due to:
-Weather
-Harsh soaps
-Ageing
Avocado Mask…

Use half of an avocado with 1tsp of yogurt and ½ tsp of honey. Leave mask on for 15 min and remove with lukewarm water.
Using just an avocado is also enough for dry skin as it provides a rich supply of vitamins and nutrients.
3. If you have Normal/Combination Skin:
Cucumber Mask…

Use ½ cucumber with 1tbsp of yogurt and leave on for 20 minutes, and is especially great if your skin is feeling dull.
Orange Mask…

Use ½ orange with 1tsp of yogurt, leave on for 15 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water.
*oranges are packed with vitamin C and antioxidants that provide and give the skina healthy glowing complexion.
RED
We had the lovely pleasure of attending a sneak-peek event of the amazing and exciting re-branding of 17th Avenue, where after 17 years of the current Uptown brand, the avenue will unveil a fresh new look that reflects its vibrancy and unique identity.
The new brand is 17th Ave Retail & Entertainment District, or simply RED, and as one of our favourite colours and areas of the city, we are certainly behind this amazing and fresh new look.
For more information, visit 17thave.ca, and make sure to attend a fun day of shopping on Saturday April 20th!
But while at the event, we spotted some stylish ladies that we just had to talk to.
Our question of the day…
…what is your current favourite beauty product and why?
Kait

Boots no. 7 lipstick in Paradise: This is a great everyday lipstick that has shimmers of gold and rose.
Leah

Lipstick and Shu Uemura brushes: The brush size is great!
Amy

Lipstick: Love MAC as it’s long lasting and doesn’t smudge, and they have bold bright colours that you don’t need to reapply a lot.
